Day 24 - Tool for previewing spritesheet animations

12/24/25

My forays into pixel art animation (see day 13 , day 22 ) has led me to use Texture Packer a lot recently for previewing the animations of the generated spritesheets. My free trial of Texture Packer recently ended, which meant it was time for me to build my own tool ;) The goal was to be able to replicate the simple workflow of going from spritesheet to seeing the resulting animation.

When all was done, I ended up with a nifty tool that lets me upload a spritesheet, render a grid overlay on top to visualize how it's splitting up the frames in the spritesheet, and then display the animation.

I added a control panel that allows for controlling the frame rate of the animation, and a slider for scrubbing through the frames so that I can step through and inspect them individually.

Try it out below! Upload a spritesheet or use one of the provided samples.

Drop spritesheet or click to select

Ctrl+V to paste an image
